SOLBIATE OLONA, Italy– Commander of NATO’s Allied Land Command, Lieutenant General John C. Thomson, and
Commander of NATO Rapid Deployable Corps – Italy, Lieutenant General Roberto Perretti,
hosted the LANDCOM Corps Commanders’ Conference from Sept. 24 – 26, 2018.
Generals Thomson
and Perretti welcomed more than 40 NATO and Allied generals and key leaders
from across Europe to the conference to discuss important issues in the land
domain involving the collective defense of Europe.
"We
have the right representation across the broader land domain to discuss the way
ahead as we adapt to be fit for purpose in our dynamic, complex, and uncertain
security environment,” said Thomson. The
theme for this conference was "How we fight: Linking Tactical Actions to
Strategic Objectives.”
Dr. John Manza, the Assistant Secretary General
for Operations from NATO Headquarters, attended the conference and
stressed the importance on training for deployment activities to increase the
readiness of NATO units.
Meantime, Deputy Supreme Allied Commander Europe, General Sir James Everard, discussed the need for nations to focus on force
generation to increase the readiness of NATO units.
General Thomson highlighted the purpose of NATO is unity, deterrence
against aggression, and the collective defense of Europe. Thomson concluded his
remarks with LANDCOM’s motto, "For the Soldier!”
