9th International NCO Winter Camp


The 9th International NCO Winter Camp took place in Pokljuka, Slovenia from 11th – 18thMarch 2016.  29 participants from 12 different nations, Partners across the Globe and NATO member countries took part in the event. OR-8 Carlos VERISSIMO of the Portugese Army was selected to represent Allied Land Command. The course was made up of Navy, Army and Air Force personnel, so the diversity between different countries, cultures and force members created a beautiful mosaic. The instructors and the Camp Leader, CSM Iztok RACMAN as well all members of Slovenia’s Armed Forces put enormous effort into the Camp.

The objective of this Winter Camp is to continue the development of well-trained NCOs within the frame work of NATO interoperability. The program of the Camp included the following activities:

- Presentations of national armed forces and NCO Corps.

- Mountaineering and mountain warfare.

- Military skiing and biathlon.

- Situational shooting.

- Study excursion.

- Thematic workshops.

- Military biathlon competition.

During the week, the Camp hosted several visitors. Civilian specialists paid a visit and observed our performance during the role-plays. Also Command Sergeant Major Davor Petek, Command Senior Enlisted Leader (CSEL) for ACO, Command Sergeant Major Smid Janez SVN (A) from NATO school Obermmaergau, Staff Sergeant Dario Markovic from Croacia, and some others VIP Guests came along to witness the students being put through their paces.
