Brigade General Alfonso F. Alba Alonso, ESP Army, was born on 11 January 1962, and earned his commission as a second lieutenant of Infantry from the Spanish Military Academy on July 1986. He assumed duties with NATO Allied Command in July 2017.
For the first two years of his carrer, BG Alba was assigned to the Spanish Legion as a platoon leader in Melilla. From 1988 to 1997, he served with the 5th Special Operations Group in Burgos as a platoon leader and as a company commander.
Promoted to Major and graduated from the Spanish General Staff School, was assigned to the Spanish Army Procurement Directorate in Madrid from 1999 to 2002, with one deployment for NATO Stabilization Force (SFOR) assigned to Multinational Division "Salamandre” in Bosnia.
From 2003 to 2006 , BG Alba served in the Spanish Joint Staff HQ in Madrid. Duties included monitoring the Spanish operations in Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq.
In 2006, he was selected to attend the senior NATO Defence Course in Rome, Italy.
BG Alba commanded the 4thSpecial Operations Group from 2007 to 2010, in Alicante. He next served back in the Joint Staff until 2013, duties within Plans Division in charge of the International Affairs Section, responsible for bilateral activities, International Organizations Affairs and Defence Diplomacy.
In 2013, he was assigned back to the Spanish Army Special Operations Command in Alicante, as Deputy Commander.
From 2015 to 2017, he served as the Spanish Army Deputy Chief of Staff Assistant.
In May 2017 he was promoted to Brigade General, and finally commissioned to LANDCOM as Plans Division Chief.
