Major General Metin Tokel was born in Gümüşhane in 1961. He graduated from Turkish Military Academy as artillery officer in 1983 and from Artillery and Missile School in 1984.
He served as the Forward Observer Officer at the 9th Infantry Division Artillery Regiment (Kars/Sarıkamış) from 1984 to 1987, as the team commander and company commander at the 66th Mechanized Infantry Division Artillery Regiment (İstanbul) from 1987 to 1989, respectively.
Having served as the Company Commander at the 26th Armored Brigade Artillery Regiment between the years of 1989 and 1993, Major General TOKEL graduated from the Army War College in 1995.
As staff officer, he served as Chief of the Operations and Training Branch at the 1st Commando Brigade (Kayseri) from 1995-1998, as the Operation Analysis Officer at the Turkish Land Forces Internal Security Department (Ankara) from 1998-2002, as the Battalion Commander at the 1st Infantry Brigade (Sakarya/Adapazarı) from 2002 to 2003, as the Military Advisor to the Permanent Representative of United Nations (USA, New York) from 2003 to 2006, as the Chief of Battle Field Management System Branch at the Turkish Land Forces from 2006 to 2011.
Having served as the Commander of the Air Defense School and Training Center between the years of 2011 and 2012, he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in 2012.
As Brigadier General, he served as the Commander of the 34th Border Brigade from 2012 to 2014, as the Commander of the Maintenance School and Training Center from 2014 to 2015, as the Chief of the Logistics Management at the Logistics Command of Turkish Land Forces from 2015 to 2016.
He was assigned as the Commander of the 3rd Infantry Division through the decisions of Supreme Military Council in 2016 and promoted to the rank of Major General in 2017.
Major General Metin Tokel was assigned as LANDCOM Chief of Staff in August 2019.
He is married and has 3 children. He is fluent in English.
